About Trove
Trove is a free, self-hosted video search hub — one search box across the platforms you actually use, running on a server you control.
What Trove is
Trove brings video search from multiple platforms into a single, clean interface. Type one query and get results from YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Rumble, TikTok, BlueSky, Pinterest and Threads side by side, instead of opening each site separately and repeating the same search over and over. You can also paste a direct link to any video to resolve and download it. See the full list of supported platforms for what search and download each one supports.
Trove is not a hosted service you sign up for. It is software you run yourself —
a FastAPI backend powered by yt-dlp, a lightweight static web
interface, and companion iOS and Android apps built with Kotlin Multiplatform.
Everything talks to your server.
Why it exists
Searching for a video usually means visiting platform after platform, each with its own algorithm, recommendations and tracking. Trove takes the opposite approach: one query box, results from everywhere, and no account required.
The self-hosted model also keeps searches private. When you search on Trove, the query is processed by your own server and forwarded to the platforms — the platforms never see you searching from your personal browser, with your cookies, your history and your recommendations attached. Your searches and downloads never leave the server you run Trove on.
How it works
- Search or paste a link Type a query into the search box, or paste a direct video URL.
- Your server does the fetching Trove queries each enabled platform in parallel and merges the results into one grid.
- Open it or download it Click a result to watch it on the original platform, or pick Download to choose a format and save it.
- Downloads stream through your server Large files are prepared server-side and streamed to you with progress and cancel controls.
A longer walkthrough, including what happens with formats and codecs, is on the How Trove works page.
What Trove stands for
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile to create.
- No tracking of your searches. Queries are processed by your server, not sold or profiled.
- No lock-in. You can stop using it, wipe it, or move it at any time.
- Respect for creators. Trove is a discovery and personal-use tool — see our Acceptable Use Policy and Copyright & DMCA pages.
Who it is for
Researchers who need results from several platforms at once, collectors building a personal media library, creators reviewing their own content across channels, and anyone who would rather run their own tools than feed a recommendation algorithm. If you are new, start with the FAQ — it answers the most common questions about legality, platforms and troubleshooting.
