Copyright & DMCA

We respect intellectual property. If something accessible through Trove infringes your rights, this page explains exactly how to reach us and what to send.

1. Our position

Trove is a search and navigation tool. It does not upload, store or host the videos themselves — the content lives on the platforms that publish it, and the links and results you see simply point to those places. Trove operates as a self-hosted service, and the operator responds to valid infringement notices relating to material that is accessible through it, including search results, direct links and any other reference to protected content. We also ask users, in our Acceptable Use Policy, to download only what they have the right to use.

2. Designated agent

Notices should be sent to the designated agent through the contact form, with the word "DMCA" in your message so it is recognised and routed promptly.

3. How to file a notice

Your notice must include all of the following, as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or of a person authorised to act on their behalf.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed — for example the title, the original URL and, where helpful, a registration number.
  3. Identification of the material that you say is infringing, with the specific URL or URLs where it appears so that we can locate it.
  4. Your contact information: name, mailing address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

4. Counter-notification

If you believe your material was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same address containing:

  1. Identification of the material that was removed and its location before removal, with the specific URL.
  2. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  3. Your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court in your district, or, if outside the United States, of any judicial district in which the operator may be found, for proceedings relating to the matter.
  4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.

5. What happens next

We aim to act on valid notices promptly, usually by removing or disabling access to the identified links or results and by noting the report for future reference. When a valid counter-notice is received, we will forward it as required; if the original complainant does not pursue legal action, the material may be restored within 10 to 14 business days. Please bear in mind that Trove is run by an individual rather than a large company, so responses may take a little longer during busy periods — you will hear back either way.

6. Repeat infringers

It is our policy to terminate access for users who repeatedly infringe copyright. Because Trove has no user accounts, repeat infringement is assessed at the level of access: persistent offending requests or automated activity may lead to addresses being blocked from the service.

7. Misrepresentation

Please be aware that under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, you may be held liable for damages, including costs and legal fees, if you knowingly and materially misrepresent that material or activity infringes your rights. Make sure your claim is accurate and that you have considered whether the use is permitted — for example, by licence or fair use — before filing.

8. Other resources

Our Terms of Service explain the legal framework around the service, and the Acceptable Use Policy sets out what users may and may not do. General questions about copyright on Trove can be sent through the contact page.
