Acceptable Use Policy
What you may use Trove for, what you must not do with it, and how problems are handled when they arise.
1. Purpose
This policy explains the behaviour we expect from anyone using Trove. It forms part of our Terms of Service, so a breach of it is a breach of those Terms. The aim is simple: keep the service useful, lawful and available to everyone who uses it reasonably.
2. Permitted use
You may use Trove for ordinary, lawful purposes. That includes personal entertainment and discovery; searching several platforms at once to find material you intend to watch on the original site; research, journalism, education and other lawful investigative work where you have a legitimate reason to compare results across platforms; and locating, previewing and downloading content you own or content you are clearly entitled to use — for example your own uploads, or material published under a licence that permits copying.
Operators running their own deployment may configure it for their household, team or community, provided they respect these rules too.
3. Prohibited conduct
You must not use Trove to:
- infringe copyright, trademark or any other intellectual-property right, including downloading material you have no right to copy;
- circumvent access controls, paywalls, subscriptions, age gates or DRM protections on content you are not entitled to access;
- make excessive automated requests that harm the source platforms, overload the server, or degrade the experience for other users;
- scrape the service, or reverse-engineer it, beyond normal use of the interface and its ordinary features;
- resell, redistribute or commercially exploit the service, or offer it to third parties as your own product;
- upload, transmit or distribute malware, or use the service to deliver spam, phishing or other harmful code;
- harass, threaten or defame other people, or seek out content that is unlawful in your jurisdiction;
- abuse the contact form by spamming it, submitting automated messages or flooding it with junk;
- misrepresent your affiliation with Trove, the operator or any video platform, or imply an endorsement that does not exist.
4. Enforcement
We may restrict or suspend access to the service for anyone who breaches this policy, at our discretion and without prior notice. Because Trove is self-hosted, the operator of a deployment may also block addresses entirely, close the service to the public, or keep it for private use. We will cooperate with lawful requests from competent authorities, including valid notices under our Copyright & DMCA page, where required by law. We are not obliged to warn you before acting, although we will generally explain a restriction if you ask through the contact page.
5. Reporting
If you see the service being used for anything on the prohibited list, or you believe your rights are being affected, please tell us. General reports and abuse complaints go through the contact page; copyright holders should follow the notice procedure on the DMCA page. Include the page address, the query or file involved, and enough detail for us to reproduce the problem.
6. Changes
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The revision date at the bottom of the page tells you when it last changed. Using the service after a change has been posted means you accept the updated policy; if you do not agree with it, please stop using Trove.
